FRIDAY | Heart Rate, Recovery, and Stress: What Your Pulse Is Telling You

Resting heart rate and recovery patterns offer insight into cardiovascular fitness and stress load. Elevated resting heart rate often reflects fatigue, dehydration, poor sleep, or emotional stress.

Wearable devices estimate heart rate variability (HRV), which reflects autonomic nervous system balance. While not diagnostic, trends in HRV can signal periods of overreaching or inadequate recovery (Shaffer & Ginsberg, 2017).

Simple awareness, such as checking morning pulse or noting how quickly heart rate recovers after activity, provides meaningful feedback without complex technology.
