FRIDAY | Stress & The Energy Drain: How Cortisol Steals Your Momentum

Stress is one of the most powerful energy disruptors. Chronic stress elevates cortisol, which interferes with glucose regulation, sleep quality, digestion, and mental clarity (Juster et al., 2010).

When cortisol is high, the body shifts into “survival mode,” leading to:

• Cravings
• Fatigue
• Emotional reactivity
• Poor recovery
• Disrupted sleep

Simple stress resets lower cortisol and restore stability:

• Slow breathing (4–6 pattern)
• Naming your emotion
• One-minute walks
• A warm beverage
• A five-minute mindfulness break

You can’t avoid holiday stress, but you can prevent it from running your physiology.
