SATURDAY | Sleep Tracking: Helpful Insight or Too Much Information?

Sleep trackers estimate duration and movement patterns, offering useful but imperfect insight. Research shows that while trackers reasonably estimate total sleep time, they may misclassify sleep stages (Mantua et al., 2016).

Sleep data is most helpful when paired with subjective experience. Feeling rested, alert, and emotionally stable often matters more than hitting numeric sleep targets.

Using sleep data to identify patterns, such as late-night screen use or irregular bedtimes, supports behavioral adjustments without obsession.
