Tuesday’s Blog: Fixed vs. Growth Mindset — The Shift That Changes Everything

If yesterday was about setting the tone for the week, today is about understanding one of the most powerful mindset shifts you can make: moving from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset.

A fixed mindset sounds like this:

  • “I’m just not a disciplined person.”
  • “I’ll never stick with healthy eating.”
  • “This is just how I am.”

In a fixed mindset, we believe our abilities and habits are set in stone. Challenges feel threatening, mistakes feel like proof that we’re not good enough, and change feels nearly impossible.

A growth mindset, on the other hand, says:

  • “I’m learning to build discipline.”
  • “I had an off day, but I can try again tomorrow.”
  • “This is hard right now, but I can get better.”

With a growth mindset, challenges become chances to improve, mistakes are feedback, and progress becomes more important than perfection.

So how do you start shifting into growth mode?

  1. Catch the thought. Notice when you’re saying “I can’t” or “I’m not good at this.”
  1. Reframe it. Add the word yet: “I’m not good at this — yet.”
  1. Take the smallest next step. Growth mindset thrives on action, even tiny steps forward.

Today, notice your inner dialogue when things don’t go perfectly. Do you lean toward fixed (“I blew it, might as well quit”) or growth (“I can learn from this and do better next time”)?

The difference between the two isn’t just mental — it’s the difference between staying stuck and building lasting change.
